No one here is opposing the second amendment, what many of us are opposing is the passage of an unenforceable document that proclaims that our community is against reasonable gun laws to protect our citizens. Recent reporting has reveled that from 2007-17, there were 59 suicides in Crawford County with 34 of those completed using a firearm. In 2018 there were 5 suicides and 10 in 2019. There is a problem in Crawford County and passing legislation such as this would send a message to the citizens, that you just don’t care. In a recent email to Council I challenged them to show me a study or some research that proved more guns made us safer. I have never seen one, even the NRA’s study was debunked. If this is such an important issue to these individuals let them pay to place this on the ballot, just like the Library does, the Sherriff’s Department does and like the Council on Aging is doing right now.
