The Poison Pill

Beyond popular belief, Democrats are not the enemy of Republicans nor are Republicans a great threat to Democrats. America has swallowed the poison pill of division. Common sense tells us that dividing our opposition should give you an advantage.   At the same time if these divided factions clash and struggle to exhaustion, conquest should be much easier. Or at the very least the divided factions would be so busy fighting each other that the pill prescriber could simply walk across the battlefield to ultimate victory. So, what are fighting for? How about the American Dream? How about a home, food for your family, a real vacation, health care, a decent wage, the ability to do better than our parents did? If the opposing party isn’t the enemy, who is? On any issue ask yourself, “who has the most to gain?” Big oil, big pharma, big banks, big business tax evaders, big investors. Not the working-class Joe, teachers, small business owners, family farmers, basically 99% of us...

Let the Games Begin

Well, the Festival has come and gone, and the kids are returning to school. The election is 70 days away and the people of Bucyrus have an opportunity to restore adults to city government. This is my follow-up message why I feel it’s time to return to City Council, with your help of course. Here is what’s happened since I first began on Council. My first term on Council we finished up the Downtown Revitalization Project, later adding outdoor seating and turning the crumbling Shrine’s Theater into a beautiful park while using little to no city taxpayer funds. We built a new water filtration plant that will serve the community for several generations and are expanding water out of the city limits to help our neighbors receive clean water. With the help of the Safety Services levy we passed in 2013 we have shored up our Police and Fire personnel, purchased new vehicles and finally after 8 years of discussions the city will be providing EMS service to our citizens and surrounding to...

A Time for Sowing

There certainly has been a lot of drama down at City Hall in the past few years. As an At-Large candidate if elected I will represent every individual in the City of Bucyrus. For years all I’ve wanted to do was to make things better in our little corner of the world. I struggle if I push too much or give in too easily. It is a balancing act, a give and take, we can’t always have it our way, I realize that. Sometimes it seems that we do things that are not reasonable just for the greater good of the community or for the benefit of future generations. But we must keep pushing forward. It seems for the past couple of years that the only thing City Council has achieved is arguments, discourse, and resignations. It is time we change that, we have to come together. We have a lot of work ahead of us. As I have since 2010 I plan to continue to push for ways to increase our city revenue, explore ways to cut costs and provide more to the citizens while spending less. I am excited about all...

What Should Council be Working On?

The past few years have been different, to say the least. The one real constant is that things are perpetually changing. This week partisan petitions were filed for City Council seats and it appears there will be definite changes to our local legislative body. Our question to the citizens of Bucyrus is what do you think our City Council Represenitives should be working on? Here is a short list of things they could be focusing on. We welcome your input on these issues and any other issues you may think of. ·          Improving or adding parks. ·          1 st , 2 nd and Equal Rights Amendments. ·          Expanding healthcare resources. ·          Expanding educational opportunities. ·          Public transportation. ·          Expa...

No one here is opposing the second amendment, what many of us are opposing is the passage of an unenforceable document that proclaims that our community is against reasonable gun laws to protect our citizens. Recent reporting has reveled that from 2007-17, there were 59 suicides in Crawford County with 34 of those completed using a firearm. In 2018 there were 5 suicides and 10 in 2019. There is a problem in Crawford County and passing legislation such as this would send a message to the citizens, that you just don’t care. In a recent email to Council I challenged them to show me a study or some research that proved more guns made us safer. I have never seen one, even the NRA’s study was debunked. If this is such an important issue to these individuals let them pay to place this on the ballot, just like the Library does, the Sherriff’s Department does and like the Council on Aging is doing right now. Let them pay for this because it’s not up to the City to use our funds for a ...

2A at City Council

A recent Facebook post has declared that a Resolution would be introduced tonight to protect our 2 nd Amendment rights and I would just like to address that. First, I am a little concerned that at the new City Council’s first full meeting that something like this would be presented. Many of you had campaigned on high utility rates, derelict buildings and the lack of good paying jobs. You have a multi-million-dollar sewer separation project going on, a swimming pool that has been out of service for nearly two years, ODNR and the State Attorney General on your back about the Pines Reservoir. In a year you will need to decide if the City will continue with the CJAD, go on their own or create something new. Has anyone got input from the schools, law enforcement, health department, mental health agencies, the voters that put you in those chairs? Do you have any statistics that prove this would make anyone safer? How will it affect sporting events, music programs, pancake breakfasts...

Meet Dan and His Plans for Bucyrus

I had worked at the former Swan Hose for nearly 30 years, the majority in the Maintenance Department. I have 20 years of Management experience, managing million-dollar projects, contractors and vendors. I have attended North Central Technical College, Marion Technical College and The Ohio State University, studying Mechanical Engineering and Real Estate, I am a Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor and along with my wife, of 21 years, Barbara, are small business owners operating Affinity HealthWorks here in Bucyrus and Galion.   I have six children, nine grandchildren and have been a lifelong resident of Bucyrus and Crawford County. I believe all my life’s experiences have led me to this day. I have served the citizens of Bucyrus as an At Large Councilman since 2010 and believe, since I have been there for the past decade, that there are so many ways to improve our community. Not that prior Administrations and Councilpersons didn’t have the best intentions for Bucyrus, I am s...
