Let the Games Begin

Well, the Festival has come and gone, and the kids are returning to school. The election is 70 days away and the people of Bucyrus have an opportunity to restore adults to city government. This is my follow-up message why I feel it’s time to return to City Council, with your help of course. Here is what’s happened since I first began on Council.

My first term on Council we finished up the Downtown Revitalization Project, later adding outdoor seating and turning the crumbling Shrine’s Theater into a beautiful park while using little to no city taxpayer funds. We built a new water filtration plant that will serve the community for several generations and are expanding water out of the city limits to help our neighbors receive clean water.
With the help of the Safety Services levy we passed in 2013 we have shored up our Police and Fire personnel, purchased new vehicles and finally after 8 years of discussions the city will be providing EMS service to our citizens and surrounding townships.

The housing situation has just been getting worse and worse over the years. We will need to address not only derelict properties as we have since 2012 but build higher income rental properties to attract a better workforce all while trying to figure out why over 100 students in the Crawford County school systems are homeless. Nearly 1 out of 4 kids in Bucyrus live in poverty and 14% of adults over 25 have not acquired a High School diploma. These are things we need to know to make improvements in our community.

Mental Health and addiction have been decimating our county for decades. Suicides doubled in 2019 and unintentional overdose deaths have ticked up to near record highs in the last couple of years, yet treatment options for these people have been consistently narrowing. It may be time that local government gets more involved.

There is a lot at stake for you and I and our families. It is time to return someone with experience, ideas, and passion to drive the issues that affect us daily. Someone who will push for accountability from the Administration not just argue and fight. I have always known that my priority was to represent the will of the citizens and I shall continue that, always welcoming your input. All I ask from you is to vote for Dan Wirebaugh November 2nd and together we can Build a Better Bucyrus.

Please share this page with your friends in Bucyrus as I would like to use it as a vehicle to keep citizens informed and a quick source of contact with their representative. If you are following this page I will follow-up with another post soon that outlines some of the things I would like to see happen and as always send me your ideas and comments.

Dan Wirebaugh
Candidate for Bucyrus City Council
